Schedule H1 drug list

Schedule H1 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 covers habit-forming and resistance-prone medicines — chiefly antibiotics, anti-TB drugs and certain psychotropics — that carry extra dispensing and record-keeping duties in India.

Prescription only

H1 medicines can be sold only against a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner.

3-year sale register

Pharmacists must record the patient and prescriber name, drug, quantity and date in a separate register kept for 3 years, open to inspection.

Warning label

Packs carry the H1 caution: it is dangerous to take this preparation except under medical supervision.

For prescribers

Prescribe H1 drugs only after a confirmed indication, document the diagnosis, and prefer the shortest effective course to limit antimicrobial resistance. On PlanMyDoc, H1 items are flagged in the prescription composer and on the printed prescription. This list is a practice aid, not the statutory text — always verify against the current Drugs and Cosmetics Rules and CDSCO notifications.
